Playing CD stopped working after XP SP2 upgrade

Hi there,
After installing SP2 on Win XP Pro my abbility to play music CD has gone.
MP3 and webb radio work. With SP1 everything worked perfectly.

Musicmatch hangs totally when playing CD and Mediaplayer continues to
respond but after one or two tracks the sounds disappears. When restarting
Windows after such a problem I don't hear the normal Windows shutdown "song"
but a short "ick"...

Have re-installed Musicmatch a number of times as well as CD-drive and
soundcard drevice drivers.

Any idea?

I got the following hw and OS
Quite old Dell XPS T600r with Intel Pentium III, 600MHz and 384MB RAM
CD-ROM-drives:
LG CD-ROM CRD-8480C (as D)
SONY CD-RW CRX140E (as E)
Soundcard Turtle Beach Montego II (128 A3D I believe with standard Aureal
8830 device drivers since soundcard not supported any longer)

After a lot of tweaking I found out that disabling digital CD audio for my
CD-drives again in the control panel and using analog playback in Windows
player as well as in Musicmatch it works. This is the only combination of the
two settings that works. I still have my soundcard set to full hw
accelaration. Recording can be digital however!

Question still remains; any ideas why this suddenly appeared after some time
using SP2, no software installed or settings chenged?

Didn't have this problem in SP1. Regulaliry checks my PC for virus and
spy-ware.
