There is a dumb troll that keeps using "FYI" in his/her posts...
this troll is the epitome of stupidity!!! Its creating long useless threads
where its arguing with itself
but sucks in other posters that have not caught on to this treachery
Please ban all messages containing "FYI"

Users can do this creating a rule in their newsreader, or if Microsoft could
do that, it would be great....

thank you

FYI...this is Usenet, and although their posting style may get on your
nerves, and others...short of kill-filing them, there's not much you can do
about it. Sorry. This is FYI (for your information)

I use Outlook Express. What does News Agent do? Does it allow you to *edit*
words like a spam filter?

Umm, well, NewsAgent is a black-hat Usenet hacking program published
by a guy using the nom-de-plume "Hipcrime". It allows a person to
"control" Usenet group content by making targeted groups unuseable, so my
comment was a bit tongue in cheek.

Most news readers can filter, so you should be able to simply
ignore anything with FYI in the Subject:. I can't tell you how to do
that with Outlook (not without reading the manual :-) because I've always
read news using the Unix command line... If you get stuck though drop
me a line and I'll try and help out.

The central problem is that Usenet is an example of the tragedy
of the commons. When the community was small and focused on support by
and for its members community standards were easily enforced and kept
the resource from exploitation for personal satisfaction and gain. When
the community became orders of magnitude larger people began to use the
public resource for private gains (including everything from the green
card lawyer scams to "destroying" newsgroups to show how powerful you are).
But moderated forums still suck, and so here we are...

Personally, I just skip postings I don't care to read. I only
filter a handful of groups that are so poisoned by spam and cross posting
it's not worth even skimming headers.

Ok...I understand...thanks. And you're right...we can also *filter* with
Outlook Express too.

Well since your post contains the offending acronym then I guess you should
be banned.

lemorian,

You just made several statements. You have the right to do so. However,
if you wish to grant yourself that right you should also grant the same
right to others. If you wish to censor your own statements it is your right
to do so. If you wish to censor the statements coming into your newsreader
that is also your right to do so. You can filter them or killfile them.

However, you do not have the right to censor my comments or the
comments of others on a wholesale basis when said comments are meant to be
observed and/or read by many people. If you don't wish to view a post you
can always skip it. I find, at times, the posts you refer to are bothersome
and offending. But then again, at times, I find them to be amusing and
interesting.

I will choose whether or not I wish to read a post, not you or
Microsoft or anyone else. I don't need for you to censor something that is
offensive to you but not to me. Your moral and/or ethical standards may be
different than mine. That is what America is all about. That is what
self-control is all about. Notice the word "self". I will control what I
wish to read. You can control what you wish to read. I have no business
controlling what YOU wish to read. I don't need a self-righteous individual
or a corporate nanny deciding and dictating what is or is not good for me.

I thank God Microsoft and/or the MVPs do not censor these discussion
groups. I give them credit for not imposing censorship. Did you notice
something about my first statement is this paragraph? Yes, I used the word
God. Are you going to censor me from these discussions because I used the
word God? If you are an atheist or agnostic you would certainly wish to
censor the word God and anyone who uses the word. How would you like to live
in a Muslim country where you do not have the right to change religions or
recognize another religion as being legitimate? In their opinion, if you no
longer wish to be a Muslim and/or if you wish to change your religion you
will be put to death. I am not digressing from the original discussion. I am
merely pointing out what can happen when someone else or another entity has
the right to dictate what is best for me.

If you wish to live in a censored world I suggest you move to China,
Burma, North Korea, Russia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Cuba, Venezuela, Tibet
or many of the Muslim nations. You can then rest in peace, knowing that what
you say, read or write is contingent upon the wishes and whims of the
governing authority. I don't think you would like it at all, Just FYI.

Have a nice day.

C.B.

Just FYI-----If and when you are able to take away my rights of freedom of
speech and freedom of expression, what rights will you want to deprive me of
next? Where will it all end?

Some of the rantings are pretty funny and I mostly come here for
entertainment. Just seeing Alias and Frank and others go after each other
is funny. I sometimes add Just FYI after a post because I know it bothers
some. My take is if you don't like what is posted, move on. There is no
real reason to censor material here.

If I can answer a post then I will but if someone is being stupid, I do
chime in. After all it's free entertainment.

Just FYI :-)
