Last night I rebooted Vista because ZoneAlarm vsmon was running high CPU, and
then Vista would not restart. Wound up having to go back one in the System
Restore. Now this morning, I wake up and Vista is sitting at "Please do not
power off or unplug your machine. Installing update 1 of 1 .." Don't know
if it's related to last night's issue.

No idea how long it's been sitting here, but it's been going for at least 45
minutes with no progress. What's up here? I'd normally reboot, but.....

Well - that is an "update".
Although that particular message is associated (usually) with someone
choosing to 'install updates and shutdown'...

If it keep going for more than a couple of hours - you'll probably have no
choice but to power it off and back on.
