Please help. Running Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Trying to upgrade t
Windows 7 Ultimate (using upgrade Cd)
Anything I try to do that uses the : AutoLaunchVWLASU (install, delete
try to defrag, etc...) - - when in Task Manager it lists this ALWAYS as
"Not Responding"

I always have to end Task using Task Manager....

Do I have a PC Problem (Sony VGC-LV150J) or a Windows Installatio
Issue

Cannot even invoke System Config or even RegEdit from the Start menu

Anybody - assistance please. THX

How are you trying to get to RegEdit and Sys Config from the Start Menu. Can you

From Start....I'm typing "regedit" in the search box. Once it's found,
dbl-clic
on Regedit, and Nada....Zippo

I can however, get at the Registry when I boot in Safe Mode

VWLASU is the Sony "Vaio Wireless LAN Setup Wizard". It is a
Sony-supplied component (not part of Windows itself).

It's quite possible the version currently running on your existing Vista
installation is not compatible with Windows 7.

To resolve the issue, I'd suggest that you got to Control Panel,
Programs and uninstall this VWLASU component. Then upgrade to Windows 7
as per normal. After you've finished upgrading, visit the Sony website
to download and install the updated VAIO drivers and software for
Windows 7 on the VGC-LV150J machine:

Hope it helps,

Andrew

Or consider downloading the drivers before upgrading and copying them
to a thumb drive or CD/DVD.

Just in case there are downloading (e.g. Internet access) problems
after upgrading...

Sony actually recomemdss that; I've done it, but I haven't upgraded
yet. Maybe tomorrow. After taking a tranquilizer :-)

Yes actually, that's good advice! Download the drivers *first*. Then
upgrade. Thanks Gene.

Cheers

YW. But I don't deserve much credit, since I just relayed the advice
from Sony, mostly because I think it's great advice :-)

In the part of my post you clipped I said I might install Win 7
"tomorrow", which was Monday, Jan 11, 2010 (I started around 14:00). I
did. And I was pretty much finished by last night (Tuesday, Jan 12).

The Sony drivers and a couple of others that I stumbled across (well,
the upgrade advisor stumbled me across them) went well, and a few
programs needed reinstallation. IIRC, the only one that I wasn't warned
about was VMware reader, which was a bit dysfunctional until I
reinstalled the whole thing (the emulator, not the Win XP guest
system). Oh - and Fences as well.

Part of the long time resulted from the above things, plus things like
reading the license agreement (really!) and making separate backups (an
image and a clone) of the Windows 7 installation immediately and again
after updating it (I had backed up Vista ahead of the installation),
and other changes, as well as some testing.

The new OS seems to be OK. Not sure about the user :-)
