it is also possible the driver for the chipset has become corrupted.
I would try removing/reinstaling the eide controller just to be sure

Ok, just installed and it did not detect the port. If the port was
bad, then you'd think the BIOS could not see it either......
But since the BIOS can see it, and the CD/DVD can be seen from another
port on the MB, what do you think??? There is only 1 IDE on the P5B,
and I have a promise controller for the other IDE devices. When the
CD/DVD are plugged into there, they are seen fine......
Something with Vista and that port went nuts......
