I downloaded a group of "security" updates that Windows Update notified me to
do on the evening of 2/18. When I attempted to boot up the next morning,
nothing happened except to tell me I had some "write error". Over the next 3
days I spend over 5 hours with MS Tech Support trying to get it started up.
With their assistance, we finally used to the recovery program (a DOS program
that requires you use DOS commands) to scan and repair the hard drive. When
will MS stop putting out "security" updates that shut your computer down for
3 days? Your posting here at least confirms that the problem was one of
these recent security updates. Good luck. Sturge
