Yesterday when I turned on my Dell Laptop (Inspiron 1521, 2 yrs. old), there
was a vertical, red, laser-like stripe on my screen. When I got to my
desktop and subsequent web pages, certain white areas (like the one on which
I'm currently writing) are awash in a turquoise color. Letters are outlined
in white. A comprehensive Norton 360 scan showed or fixed nothing. Not sure
if it's related, but last weekend, I popped my keyboard, and other "doors" on
the computer bottom, and blew out the dust with aerosol air. Was careful,
however, not to touch anything! I'm only a casual user, no games, vids, etc.
Mostly shopping, banking, & email .

I'm in panic mode. Pleeeeaaaaassssseeeee help!!! Muchisimas gracias!!

Restart PC, hit F8 frequently whilst starting or untill you get a beep,
select safe mode when the window pops up.
How is it now?

Hello, Bob. What did you say your problem with Vista was ? I think I
missed it.
Apparently you "touched" something, or blew dust into/onto something that
you weren't supposed to. Either that or you screwed up your keyboard where
multiple keys are being activated simultaneously.

You may want to post your problem here, alt.sys.pc-clone.dell, and stop
messing with things you're not sure about.

sounds like a video problem
and nothing to do with the
hard drive and so it is still
intact.

what I "WOULD DO" since you
do have an opportunity is to move
all of your personal documents and
pics off the hard drive.

then you should go to the home site
for your laptop and check out the
faq's and perhaps sending it in for
repair "or"

finding a lcd screen supplier who
usually can replace the lcd and its
powering components,

that is if the display is has become
physically faulty.

---------

incidentally, do you get the same
problem in safe modes?

Thanks for most of your replies. I tried a system restore to Dec. 16, and I'm
holding my breath that things may be back to nermal. If it happens again,
I'll trek to Best Buy and have it repaired.

Best Buy and computer repair is an oxymoron. Take it to a local computer
shop where someone knowledgeable can look at it. I hope you don't have a
warranty with BB.

And if you take it to any repair place clone the hard drive first (use
Acronis true image or the like) or at least back up the data on the drive.
Even with care data may be destroyed on the hard drive even fixing a
monitor.

Thanks again, folks. Knock on wood: the problem has disappeared for now, so
I'm going to presume it was temporary and whatever the hardware problem may
have been, it's waiting for a more inopportune time to reappear!! Happy New
Year. -Bob

I understand you're so desperate you're also giving blow jobs for $10. It's
a shame your wife is still pulling out her teeth and giving them for $5.

glad you found the system
restore point.

------------------

ok, then if system restore
panned out for you,

then you may not be
experiencing hard ware
related issues.

I would make a system restore
point for today while the system
is functioning well for you at this
time.
