I was able to install the new update from Audiovox on the
new XV6600, but when I tried to restore from the backup
file the following error came up: "Restore could not copy
the following files to your device. To correct this
error, close all programs..." All my programs are closed
so this is not the problem. There was about 16 files on
the list that could not be restored on the device,
including the most important (Contacts, appointments,
tasks, etc). The list made me believe that they existed,
but were not able to be restored for some reason. What
can I do? Can also call 617-425-6300 ask for Dillon

You're not actually saying just what you are doing. When you say new
update do you mean an OS update, like from 2002 to 2003 ?

When you hard reset your machine go to the task list to see if anything
is running, it may be that those standard programs are open. Do your
restore straight after this.

I don't know if it's the OS update like the one from
2002/3? I didn't know one existed for this device that
just came out a little while ago. There is only one
update and it's the one I used.

Turning off running programs didn't help...do you know
another secret?

An OS update can cause issues as your machine looks like a new one- it
can stop restores happening. I would find out just what you did and try
to undo the change- perhaps a return to the original OS will sort it.
It seems to be the best option now, if it doesn't work then it seems
you may have lost the data.

I know this doesn't help now but you should seriously consider
understanding what updates are and what they do as well as potential
effects on your machine and data *before* blindly updating.

Hi Dillon,

If its only Contacts, Appointments and Tasks, then you can recover them via
your desktop on the next sync (if they are present in Outlook). With
respect to the files, assuming you have used ActiveSync to perform a backup,
then you can consider using STGViewer to recover those files, if they are
not available on your desktop.
