Your registry will be restored to the state that it was when you
installed SP2. Anything installed since then (that uses the registry)
will have to be reinstalled.

Thank you so much for you respond!
Is there any way that I can back up the registry before uninstalling SP 2
I formatted my hard drive 2 months ago, and the first thing I did installing
SP 2
then I installed all my programs, registering all those programs it will
take me forever! Please tell me what is the easiest way to do it!
I really appreciate your help!

The $64000 question is "why on earth do you want to uninstall it?"

If you are having problems, try giving us a brief outline in this thread..

I would not advise at all what you are planning, using an SP2 registry
with SP1. So much so, I'm not going to tell you how to do it <g>.

Your only options are live with SP2 (what's the problem anyway?) or
reinstall the lot.

I'll respond for her, in the hopes of getting some of the money. I imagine
she's experienced random BSODs, software incompatibility issues, and the
myriad other problems that people have had. Some of the 319,000 results of
this Web search might be a good starting place for you to learn more about
this:

You're welcome. -Jeff

Jeff

I am well aware that people have problems, but many can be headed off.. some
of the better software authors have supplied patches where they could, and
hardware producers have followed suit.. SP2 wasn't thrust on the industry as
a whole.. it was in beta test format for a long time.. we all knew it was
coming, and the improved security that it provides is very welcome..

SP2 is a major update and is not going away.. there is a tendency among some
to listen to the bad hype re. SP2, and uninstall immediately instead of
working through each problem.. there is also a definite 'to do' list that
must be followed.. but with all respect, any software install will go better
if done on a machine that is properly maintained..

In forums and newsgroups, we only get to see the people with problems.. I
know of more than a few who accepted the initial update from WU, and they
have no problems at all.. for most of them, they were not even aware that
there might be..

Okay, so you understand why someone might want to uninstall it: they
installed it and had a bad experience. Next time, instead of a useless
game-show question, maybe you should tell somebody why they're making a bad
choice. I agree; someone will have to eventually get on SP2 or stop using
Windows altogether, and the latter is not an option for most people.

Jeff

The link that you provided was a page full of mostly posts in forums that
date back to September of last year.. some of us have moved on since that
time and many users have managed to install SP2 and overcome any problems
that the install incurred.. even you agree that computer users are going to
have to come to terms with SP2..

I think it best to give technical/neo-technical answers based on actual
problems rather than the kind of statement made in the OP's initial post..
so I asked why in a semi-light hearted way.. too bad that you didn't like
that approach..
