I had to do a complete restore and have tried 16 times to
get the Windows updates. I am using Windows ME.
I go to Internet Options in the Control Panel, Delete
Files offline and online. I go to settings and delete all
in the Temporary Internet Files. I do a restart. At this
point I close all files, i.e. Virus scan, firewall etc.
I then click on Windows Update and connect to internet.
I says that I have downloaded successfully an I should
restart.
Upon the restart I get this message with a black screen
and white lettering:
Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2 %1: %2
Windows could not upgrade one or more system files before
starting.
Windows may not start or run properly.
If Windows fails to start, run setup again.
After I hit a key it looks like everthing is loading
correctly.
Then a small window pops up with this message:
The shortcut 'Resume Windows Update Installation Lnk'
refers to a location that is unavailable. The location
could be on a hard drive on this computer, on a network,
or on a different computer on your home network. Check to
make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you
are connected to the internet.
