Today I went to local Frys to buy Vista Premium (Retail).
And the sales man told me that it’s restricted to 3 or 5 installs and it’s
bounded to the same MOBO!?
I didn’t buy it as this is major drawback for me as I’m usually lazy to find
fixes for viruses and broken drivers and just reformat the whole thing and
start from scratch.
Can some one tell me if it’s true? Or the sales man got confused with OEM
version?

P.S. The retail box in the store had only 32 bit Ver. And what about 64
bit? I would like at least to try it.

There is no limit as to the number of times Windows vista can be reinstalled
on the same computer, OEM and retail.

OEM normally can not be moved to another computer regardless the condition
of the original computer.

By your statement, it seems you are referring to retail.
Retail can be moved to a different computer and reinstalled as many times as
desired as long as it is only installed on one computer at a time.

Retail Vista Ultimate comes with 32 and 64 bit DVD while Home Basic, Home
Premium and Business come with a 32 bit DVD with information on acquiring a
64 bit DVD.
All come with information for acquiring the version on CDs.

Thanks for the detailed replay it seems that the sales man didn’t knew what
he was talking about.
I will go and buy one tomorrow (not from frys).

"didn’t knew what he was talking about"
Seems very true in this case.

You could also send a letter to Frys explaining why you are purchasing from
a competitor.

Jupiter, will you read the posts.

He says [Retail]
What is wrong with you?

Both those statements are false.

The sales staff in store like these are usually chosen by their
willingness to accept something close to minimum wage, not for their
technical knowledge.

If you go to Fry's web site and search for the two words: vista full, you
will get a list of about 6 items. Most hits have titles like:
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit (Full) - System Builder (OEM)
version - DVD

You and the sales person may have been talking about two different things.
I don't think the OEM versions come in anything but a FULL INSTALL, whereas
the retail versions come in FULL INSTALL and UPGRADE INSTALL versions.

Perhaps you could go here:
http://shop3.outpost.com/search?sear...ows+vista&cat=
and find the exact package you want; the store salesperson will probably
give more accurate info if you present him with the Fry's number for the
package, like: Item # 5089445.

Even if the salesperson were talking about an OEM version, it would
not be correct that "it's restricted to 3 or 5 installs."

Read my post, about the middle.

Another post from you where you contribute NOTHING to the OP while
criticizing others who try.

"What is wrong with you?" that you are incapable of little more than
criticism?

Oh the irony if only Jupiter was smart enough to "get it".
