MB Asus P5N-T Deluxe
Just upgraded from Core 2 Duo to Core 2 Quad.
Cannot enter BIOS. At boot the message "new CPU fitted to get best results
update your BIOS"
When pressing DEL it says entering BIOS but doesn't.
Tried using the Installation disc but get a blue screen saying windows shut
'cos new H/w or S/W fitted.
How can I update the BIOS if it can't be got?
Will it mean replacing the CPU - downloading and installing the updated BIOS
then refitting the Core 2 Quad? Hope not.
TIA

Screwy. Try flashing your bios to the newest version, then entering the
bios setting.

That's not how you "flash" the BIOS. You need to go to the motherboard
manufacturer's web site and download the updated BIOS flash file. (Normally
a zip file that used to reside on a floppy, but nowadays I think you can
unzip to a USB memory stick or a CD...)
You then boot from the USB stick or CD in order to flash the BIOS.
*BE* *WARNED* - You MUST use the correct BIOS updater file otherwise you
could completely hose your machine...

If you did not upgrade the BIOS prior to installing the new CPU, you'll
need to reinstall the old CPU, upgrade the BIOS to the latest version
available from ASUS, then reinstall the new CPU.

Why should that be necessary? Most manufacturers have a downloadable BIOS
flash file that works from bootable external media.... i.e. even before
POST...

It is possible the OP's current BIOS settings are not set to boot from
anything other than the hard drive or DVD drive. I doubt the OP has a
floppy drive installed and booting from a USB flash drive requires it be
set as a bootable drive in the current BIOS which the OP apparently
cannot enter.

Let's run sentences together. Doesn't mean anything except to the voices in
your head.

Just FYI.
