I've recently bought a new Avent notebook which included Synaptics touchpad
pointer and uses Vista Home Premium. If I leave the pointer over a
folder/file in Explorer or a link in Internet then it auto selects after a
few seconds. Can anyone tell me how to change this or if it sounds like a
problem/virus? Thanks.

It is default 'single click' behavior to select on hover (if focus is in the
desktop). Open Folder Options in Control panel, and set that as you like.

Thanks for advice Mark. Just to make sure, can you please tell me what
options I should choose so that my folder or file selection is by standard
double click? Sean

Control Panel/Folder Options/General tab, see Radio Button for
'doubleclick'.
