Spec:
CPU: E6600
Mobo: Gigabyte 965-DS4
Mem: 2x1Gb @ 800Mhz
VGA: 8800GTX
PSU: 700W

Before explaining the problem, the cause is not overclocking, driver related
or any other fault of my hardware since I have doublechecked everything.

I get 1/3 performance drop on 3D applications and some weird sound
artifacts, for example I am listening to online radio and i open IE7, or
while sliding the browser slider.
This has happened to me twice, first was on 03/06/07 after I installed
windows updates. Everything then worked fine on 06/06/06 after installing
Windows Update Software 7.0.6000.374

Now this time 13/06/07, after installing the Windows updates same thing has
happened, performace is p00.

Anyone has a clue as if it is indeed the updates are causing the problem, is
there a fix or do i need to wait for Microsoft again, or if there is some
kind of conflict with a specific application ?

There's a second part to the 'fix' ... but the specs you listed didn't
include the OS. Let's say it's XP SP2 x86, correct ?

Then you'll need to download and save KB927891
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-404327772E5A

Close the browser and any other programs then install the update and
restart the system when requested to.

Problem not solved. I was able to install the first executable, the second
executable is for x86 as i saw, so when i try to install it gives an error
like there is not enough space..

Why is this happening, how come an update can cause such think. Is my only
resolution to uninstall the updates?? Updates that are security fixes??

Sorry for not mentioning before, I am using Vista Business x64. And i
realized one more thing, performance drops when on Full Screen, for example,
when in IE7 full screen and slide up and down i get the sound artifacts and i
saw that the CPU usage goes sky high. It seems like the pc is lagging.

I really cannot understand what it is...

I followed the link, I installed, I rebooted but the problem remains.

Although MowGreen gave me updates for XP and not Vista, there are two links
in his post.

Maybe there is one for Vista, I searched for an update "resolves an issue in
the Windows Installer (MSI)" but the only x64 i could find was for Windows
Server 2003.

Yesterday I even restored to a point before the installation of the updates
but it did'tn resolve the probem. Please help me.

Regards
George

The second update, KB927891, is *NOT* for Vista, George. Sorry, I should
have noticed the OS was Vista x64 in the Subject line.

The correct link for x64 is
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x64.exe
which is the same as Michel posted.
There is no updated .msi for Vista, as you've found out. It's possible
that there is data mismatch or corruption going on in the
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution folder causing the slowness, since you've
stated that it appears after doing updates.
In order to clear the contents of said folder you will have to stop the
Automatic Updates service first via the Services console
Then delete all contents of SoftwareDistribution
Empty the Recycle Bin
Then reinstall the Windows Update Agent
There should be no need to restart, but there's no harm in doing so
either <w>

I become desperate, dunno what to do.. I guess the next thing to do would be
to remove the updates, but they are so many.

Is there a way where I can remove them all at once?

How can I see if there is an update missing or conflicting with something, a
tool where I can check the integrity of the updates? or even of the whole
system.

Windows update says that the system is up to date! Also I do check it
manually in regural intervals during the course of day.

Easy, George. It's just a computer. It ain't 'real', dude. <w>
Bet if you dumped the contents or renamed the SoftwareDistribution
folder that everything would play nice -

> 1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.

> 5. Use the Windows Update Web site again to install updates.

OR, if you get an 'Access Denied' error message -

> Use Computer Management, Services, to STOP the Windows Update service:

> a. Click Start and then Run.
> b. Key in services.msc and press OK. The Services applet will now load.

OR, delete the contents of SoftwareDistribution.
The only consequence is that the update History shown on Windows/Microsoft
Update will be erased.
