Hi,

When im making calls from pc to pc, the sound works perfectly,
but when i make video calls, the sound is terrible.
Xp, WML 8.1 / 8.5, computer 1.7 Mhz, other one 500Mhz,
6Mb adsl.

Sentence are broken off or partly repeated, cracking sounds and so on.
Earlier i have sent small movies via wlm, what works fine.

I tried the same thing with two other pc's, but the same sound problem.
(One of this pc's had a stable connection for 8 hrs, between Europe and
the US, and no sofware was changed since then.)

**During videocalls i get this message: (translated)**
The network is slow, therefore the video quality can be reduced.

I tested the internet connection speed, was ok.
Firewalls and virusscanner off for short moment, didn't help.
The other parties internet speed was good as well.

Is there anything that i forget to check?

Thanks in advance,

heian

Greetings,

It certainly does sound like a bandwidth issue. However, the real issue may be that you're
not able to establish a direct connection to your contact. If you can't establish a direct
connection, Messenger will utilize a relay server and therefore the available bandwidth is
significantly less.

If either of you are using a router for instance, in order to consistently establish direct
connections, they will need support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP).

You can check what Messenger thinks of your current networking configuration by pressing the
Alt key on the keyboard in any Messenger window, then the Tools menu, then Options, then
Connection category and after waiting 10-20 seconds for Messenger to populate the data, see
what it have to say about your connection.

Do both computers have USB 2 ports as opposed to slower USB1? I have
seen this problem with video and audio through a USB 1 port. The slower USB
1 port has difficulty handling both video and audio. A workaround is to
connect an external microphone (external to a USB web cam) so that the USB 1
port only has to handle the video.

The cam is connected to a usb2 port, and an external mic. was used.
So once a while i got a message from a slow network, but instead the video
quality decrease, the sound becomese worse.
