Pop-up task bar reminders are overkill

As much as I like and enjoy many things about Vista HP 32-bit, I want to be
clear that this is a comment, not a question. Through the help of a kind
person on this forum, I've already gone into the control panel and changed
the settings so that the pop-up task bar notices occur only "when urgent".
(I can't remember how I did it - it was thru his instructions etc)

That has barely made any difference. The pop-up task bar reminders are
still very much overkill.

How often - long after I've already rebooted and logged on - do I really
have to know that Vista is blocking an unwanted program? Especially when the
unwanted program is pre-installed HP (Hewlitt-Packard) software that came
with my HP Pavilion that carries a sticker saying that this HP is Vista
Ready?

Every little change in my Network gets a pop up notice. Oh here's another
notice now while I'm typing that is saying Windows has blocked some startup
programs.

Btw, I've even tried going into MSCONFIG and disabling some of the startup
programs. But when they are HP-oriented like mine are, it messes OTHER
things up to do that. That's what is so maddening - not just the notice, but
that Vista acts like it's the only program running on my machine.

I needed to share this comment. It really IS too much. I'm sorry to say, but
it's true. I like Vista a lot but this is overkill galore.

Thanks,.... Frank B.

Sounds like the pop ups are coming from Defender. There is an option
to limit how much and what it nags about. A whole laundry list of
stuff you can customize under Defender's Tools.

I have never liked Defender, of all the MS programs this is one of the less
defend more interfere style, than I would tolerate in XP so never downloaded
it.

On Vista it is part of the System now, but I always go into the settings and
make sure it does the job quietly
