If it's something you installed recently, you could try System Restore back
to a point before. Otherwise it will be the long-haul of regedits to salvage
the day.

Yep, extremely dangerous. So dangerous, it might even work.

Well I suppose startup entries would be the first port of call eg under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run

plus the startup folder.

But I'm still holding out hope for the System Restore option.

What about installing and using Autoruns.exe? It's free at Microsoft.com.

My main problem with it is that it shows way too much info - but it does
have a search function.

Autoruns lets you find an offending startup item and uncheck it or even
delete it.

Good suggestion. Let's hope the OP gets it, although the lack of response
thus far is a little worrying .......

Nir Sofer does a simpler start-up program, but after using Autoruns it seems a bit tame!

As a first measure I would clean the cookie folder. Type SHELL:COOKIES
into the start/search field and hit Enter. That presents the cookie
folder. Here you can clear all cookies or just the ones in question.
A second step is to run SAS ( 'SUPERAntiSpyware.com | Remove Malware |
Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!'
(http://www.superantispyware.com/) ). That will clean up the tracking
cookies and any other bad boys you have on your system.
