I am running Vista Business Edition that connect to my wirless
router. A SMC Barricade 7004ABR router is wired to the wirless router
in my office. I added a local printer to a SMC100 port. The SMC100
port is created by SMC 7004ABR printer port monitor utility. I went
to the printer properties page and go to the Ports tab, the SMC100
port is checked. I clicked the "Configure Port", but nothing
happening. I need to open the prot configuration to check the IP
address. The SMC100 port should have an IP address 192.168.2.2 to
which all print job from this machine will be sent. Strangely, if I
use the network cable connection to the wirelss router then I can
print. I just cannot print through wirless connection. Thanks for
your help.

I had exactly the same problem with the SMC 7004ABR and have just found
a solution.

The problem is that the printing utility supplied by SMC is not
compatable with Vista. Fortunately, since the router network printing
feature is based on lpd, it can be configured manually in Vista
following these steps:

In Printer properties, you need to go to the Ports section and add a
new Standard TCP/IP Port (not the SMC port type). Please provide your
router IP address as both printer name/address and port name. Vista will
try to autoconfigure the port, but it will of course fail, so you will
need to modify some settings manually. For device type, you must select
"Custom" and then change Settings as follows: Protocol must be set to
LPR, and queue name must be lpt1 (this is fixed for this SMC router).

Depending on your printer, you may need to take an extra step. For
instance, I'm sharing a Brother HL-5130 laser printer, which uses its
own print processor. As a result, I only got completely blank pages. So
you may need to change the print processor as well. This can be done in
the Printer properties, within the section Advanced options, by
selecting Print processor... There you must choose WinPrint as print
processor and RAW as data type.

I hope this helps!

Best regards,

Pepe

I am trying to setup something that is almost exactly the same, bu
running into problems

All my computers are connected wirelessly via dlink DI-624, and then
have a SMC 7004ABR which is connected to a HP LaserJet 1100

wan ip on SMC router is 192.168.13.15, and its local ip is 192.168.2.

If I have a machine connected directly to SMC, I am able to setting th
printer with LPR print queue lpt1 no problem, but when I try to setu
the printer via the wireless connection using its wan ip 192.168.13.15
am not able to get the printer to work. Am I doing this completel
wrong, can someone give me some pointers

Thanks in advance
Ra

Hi Ra

I do not longer have my SMC 7004ABR, but I am afraid that the proble
is that the router only shares the printer on the LAN but not on th
WAN. Normally this is by design, in order to avoid unathorized access t
your printer from the outside. Although this is not the case in you
network configuration, this behaviour is probably fixed in the router
Therefore, I think that you will not be able to make it work

I'm really sorry :

Anyway, please let me know if you find some workaround for thi
problem.

Best regards

Pep
