There is a bug in the default SATA drivers for some Intel chipsets. It
leaves on a setting that is intended only for laptop drives. Some
desktop drives don't support it, and will sometimes freeze for a bit.
The fix is to update to the latest Intel Matrix Storage drivers
(currently 7.8).
