Possible new vista-glitch? Or just a messed-up drive?

I probably should run a dvd-clean right off, and thus perhaps not need to
post here at all, but as I'm pretty lazy, I thought I'd check the easiest
option first.

SO, upon starting with Vista(fresh harddrive) I find the main dvd-player is
nonresponsive. various updates later, the only difference is that it no
longer opens the tray upon being told to 'open'. request for disc is still
being made. Have tried with three different, both personal and
'professional'...no go.

Any chance this is due to some fluke in Vista, or should I go buy some
dvd-clean?

Have you checked Device Manager in Control Panel to see if there are any
issues with that drive?

Yes. and that's another thing. All three(apparently there's a third driver,
too) are set as 'cd-players'. Don't know about the original, but both the
ones I use(or try to, anyway) are dvd. this normal?

But anyway, yes. The usual nonsense 'this driver functions as intended'. Not
that that means all that much, in my experience. :P
So, no Vista-related problems with a second dvd-player?
