Is it possible to roll back to XP without reinstalling everything?

Hello,

I "upgraded" from XP to Vista and now realise that I have made a big
mistake.

I know how to reformat and reinstall everything from scratch - but this is a
very unpalatable option that will take several days.

Is it possible to go back to XP without having to reformat and reinstall?

Unfortunately I don't have a Windows.old folder.

I guess Microsoft have made it hard to roll back because otherwise everybody
would do so. XP is so much better than Vista.

The Vista upgrade should have left that directory on your computer,
unfortunately I can't tell you why it's gone. If you don't have the legacy
OS files, you will have to do a clean XP install.

It's possible your view settings are such that you can't see the folder.
Did you check Programs and Features in Control Panel to see if there is an
option to Uninstall Vista? If this was an upgrade, usually that option
would be there.

That said, if it is not, check the following Knowledge Base article which
might help you accomplish the task, not as simple as it would be if the
option was there but doable:

If you upgrade, Vista DOES make a Windows.OLD folder. Either you deleted it
or you did an install on a clean partition.
