Hi,
I used to receive the error 0x80072F76 whenever I visited the windows update
site. At that time i had Norton Anti-virus, Norton SystemWorks, and ZoneAlarm
installed on my computer. I shut down all these services but still found out
tht the website didnt work because the problem was tht these services still
run in background to protect your computer and arent completly shut down.

So I took the risk of uninstalling Norton Anti-virus first and found out tht
Norton Anti-Virus was my problem. After i unistalled it, restarted the
computer and again visited the Windows Update website, it worked perfectly.
I'll advise anyone receiving this error to first chek with your Anti-Virus
software, uninstall it and chek if the problem still exists. If u still get
the error after uninstalling the program, try shutting down ro uninstalling
any firewall software you have installed and chek bak with the website again.

I hope this information is helpfull and plz leave feedback in this
discussion if this was yr computer's problem so we can consult Symantec to
look at this problem and give a sollution for it.

I have Norton Security 2006 & have this problem although a different error
number appears. Since I have already paid for two years service I don't want
to uninstall it.

I went to the Norton Protection Center Screen and on it found a link under
'Quick Tasks' called "Windows Update Web Site". I used this link rather than
the one in my start menu and was able to access Windows Updates that way. I
irritates me that Norton did this but what can you do? Hope this helps others
having this problem.
