When windowsupdate went to v5 I could not get it to work. I have tweaked my
services based on BlackVipers (www.blackviper.com) web site and, I think the
problem is, v5 needs quite a few of the services running that I disable.

These include:
Automatic Updates
Background Intelligent Transfer Service

And Possibly:
Terminal Services

I have found if I create a Hardware Profile with all the services setup
accourding to the default configuration and restart my machine with that
hardware profile loaded, v5 works. If I load my tweaked profile, v5 won't
work.

I am running SP2.

I have found that v4 works with my tweaked profile.

Hope this helps out some of you.
