Hi Steve
Yes I have seen this on many servers and workstations alike since around the
time XP SP2 went live. It could just be coincidence but it seems very
unlikely. I have seen this problem on a Windows 2003 Domain that uses Group
policy for automatic updates directly from the MS web site to XP clients
(SP1 and SP2 alike) as well as many member servers running 2000 and 2003 in
the same domain. Although rather strangely I built a 2003 member server from
scratch yesterday and that did fully update from the 2003 domain GPO. It
thus seems that all our existing servers and workstations since XP SP2 have
stopped picking up any auto-updates and the same is also true for my friends
on their home networks and PC's?. If you build PC's from scratch they get
updates. Existing PC's have had no auto-updates including these since XP SP2
went live? You run a manual Windows update and everyone shows these are
needed.
With no exceptions so far, I have yet to see any XP Service Pack 1 machine
upgrade to SP2 via automatic update unless they were running an RC or beta
version of SP2. That I can live with but when the auto updates seem to stop
totally for multiple people in different scenarios I am very concerned as to
what is going on. MS clearly stated that auto update would send out XP SP2
on August 25th. Can anyone enlighten us please?
Let us hope this question does not once again fall on deaf ears as no one
seems to know? Presumably someone must know please?
Regards,
Paul Lemonidis.
