My system consists of a Pentium 4 3E GHz 800 MHz 1MB L2
processor on a Intel D865 PERLL motherboard. Last night,
after installing the critical update KB885626and
restarting, I proceeded to install SP2 via a microsoft CD
after disabling the 2005 Norton Anti-Virus ( the anti-
virus function in the BIOS still enabled ). All went wel
excpt that the machine hanged during rebooting as the
blue bars kept on streaking by. I forced shut down the
machine and re-started it without success several times
and then gave up. Half an hour later, I re-started the
computer and it kind of succeeded as all desk top icons
appeared except the ones on the task bar below which took
ages to appear. After shut down and re-boot twice,
everything seemed to return to normal although the number
of blues bars which streaked by still seemed to be
excessive.

Could anyone please tell me whether this is normal post
SP2 installation? Or may be I should first check whether
the motherboard BIOS needs to be updated before
installing the critical update KB885626. Any advice
would be appreciated.

I intend to ghost back to SP2 as the local distributor
for both the intel processor and motherboard advised
against updating to SP2 as they believed there are too
many problems exist between SP2 and P4 Prescott processor.
