Situation: 9-10 AUG 06 automatic update (unknown what) loaded to computer
(Compaq US2800, Windows XP w/SP2), and required restart for new setting to
load.

Problem: Computer reboots. Loads 1st screen showing F2 Setup, F12 boot
from lan (normal). Loads 2nd screen Compaq w/ copy right, and load bar
showing progress (normal). Loads 3rd screen the powder blue Windows XP, and
freezes, end of boot. The hard drive activity light flashes a little, and
more when keys are pressed ESC, F1, RTN etc without effect. The mouse cursor
is still responsive, but does not provoke any reaction. Central-Alt-Del no
effect. Hard power down is only recourse.

Efforts to fix: All attempts to reboot in safemode (last successful config,
etc) failed with same results, freezes and fails to completely boot. F2
setup requested password, but none had ever been set. Kicking self for not
having start up disk/rescue disk.

Experts: Job location prohibits taking computer to nearest Radio Shack for
repair.

Solutions: Request possible explanation to resolve, and/or fixes
downloadable from website to diskette or CD for execution/repair of problem.
Thanks

it sounds 2 me like there is a problem with the windows partion on your hard
disk. as long as the recovery partion is still ok you should b able 2 do a
recovery (it will restore your whole system and destroy all data though). you
should do this from the first boot screen (well on my compaq its the first
one anyways it should be the screen with the compaq logo) i cant remember
right off hand which key you have 2 push but it should say recovery or
something similar.
