Posting to a public folder with spaces in the file name

System: SBS2k3, Entourage 2008, Outlook 2003

I make very heavy use of public folders, and they are email enabled. There
are users and scanners that post to the public folders by just sending an
email to the public folders name (i.e. Without the @host.com) However, lots
of the public folder file names have spaces in their name. For example, a
public folder may be named "Doe, John" and may be several folders deep (i.e.
Public Folders/clients (open)/Doe, John)

This naming convention freaks out the email clients (Entourage 08, Outlook
03). They refuse to send emails, claiming they are invalid. Is there a way
to post via email to a public folder with spaces in the name?

If you look at the SMTP Proxy email address of the public folder with spaces
in a name, it shows up without the spaces. Look in the GAL for the name,
right-click its properties, or look in the ESM, Folders section.

The name that shows up when you create a new email, click on the To button
to look in the GAL, you will see the Public Folder entry with the spaces,
which you can simply choose, but in the background, Exchange actually uses
the SMTP Proxy address.

Therefore, I am not entirely sure what you mean about it "freaking" out mail
clients. In Outlook, you can start typing part of the name in the To: line,
hit ctrl + K, and it will find the object, which you can select. Example:
John Doe, type in 'joh' (without the quotes), and hold down the CTRL button,
then click on the 'K' key, and it will show you any iterations of the
letters that exist in the GAL, which you can choose from.

OWA works the same way, and I assume Entourage does, as well, since it is a
Microsoft mail client.

On the SBS, it listed the share name with the spaces. On the Entourage
computer, it replaces the spaces with %20

Outlook will refuse to send the email, stating that it doesn't recognize an
email address. I tried adding it, to no avail.

Entourage just puts a ? Next to the email address and dims the send button.

The control - k click said "no suggestions"

I got it to work once, but I haven't the foggiest idea how.

I had a folder named "clients (open)". The source of the posted message
reveals that it was sent to : To: "Clients (Open) Clients" <clients>

So you are saying if you hit the Ctrl K key when you put in the first part
of a name with spaces, it can't find it?

How about when you click on the To: button? It should show you the GAL,
which you can select the recipient. Are you saying that does not work,
either?
