If I try to update either Windows or my virus protection (McAfee Internet
Security Suite 8) my monitor or computer (not really sure who's the culprit)
go into power saving mode. Que pasa? Internet works fine, Email works fine -
it only happens with updates and only once I am past the verification
regarding software, Windows installer and so on. I click 'Custom' and after a
view seconds - woosh - power saving mode.
Thanks for any help.

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista x64 SP2) when
posting to this newsgroup.

Is your McAfee subscription still current? Was another McAfee application
or a Norton application ever installed on this computer (including a
free-trial that came preinstall on the machine when you bought it)?

Did you intentionally disable Automatic Updates? Can you enable it, reboot,
and then find it still enabled?

Just found out that my subscription for this version of Security Suite has
ended - get me a new one tomorrow and will see if the problem persists. I
wonder though why it also happens with Windows updates. I will post again
here should the problem be solved with the new Security Suite.

Don't bother: Chances are no anti-virus or security suite's going to install
or work correctly now.

Backup your personal data, then do a format & clean install of Windows.
Please note that a Repair Install (AKA in-place upgrade) will NOT fix this!

After the clean install, you'll have the equivalent of a "new computer" so
take care of everything on the following page before otherwise connecting
the machine to the internet or a network and before using a USB key that
isn't brand-new or hasn't been freshly formatted:
