Power went off while PC was shutting down and installing 1 of 5 XP updates
(sadly I live in South Africa where ESKOM do this willy nilly). There was a
message as I was shutting down NOT to unplug the PC until the updates were
complete, but alas it was NOT my fault. Now when I restart, the PC starts up
and does the whole BIOS thing and scans for IDE drives but then I'm left with
a BLACK SCREEN!!! Pressing F8 doesn't help...PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! HELP
ME!!!!

Do you have an alternate boot for that partition?
E.g. one which has /SOS and /BASEVIDEO parameters
in its boot.ini settings. I think you could even create one
using the XP console, e.g. with its bootcfg tool but I'm not
certain of that...

(Live Search for
console bootcfg site:microsoft.com
)

In any case the WU NG is not the best place to be asking
for help about your predicament. Cross-posting to an alternative
NG for convenience.

Good luck
