Presence information problem after switching email address

Hi, I have a problem that's going on for a few months that I never found a
conclusive solution for.

A while ago I changed my Windows Live ID email from (old
email) to (new email). Since then, weird things started to
happen. My guess is that Windows Live ID / Messenger / other services were
supposed to start a migration process but that didn't complete successfully.

One problem is that some of my contacts see my account as the old email and
when they see that they will always see me as offline. Only when they remove
the "old contact" (really it's the same Windows Live ID) and add the "new
contact" (with the new email) can they start seeing me online.

I can live with asking the 100+ contacts on my list to readd me if that were
the solution. However, once a while a contact will tell me they no longer see
me online and upon inspection my old email appears again.

This issue is making messenger less and less usable as it becomes
unpredictable in reporting contact's presence information. Is anyone else
experiencing this problem? Who can I contact to get this fixed? I tried
sending support emails to Windows Live Messenger but they forwarded my
request to Windows Live ID and I haven't heard from them since.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Herman,

You can't change your Windows Live ID. You can create a new Windows Live
ID and start using that one. You need to send an E-mail to your contracts
and tell them your new Live ID.

Change your Windows Live ID
Use a new Windows Live e-mail address

Use your own e-mail address Creating a new Windows Live e-mail address
gives you access to all Windows Live services, including Mail.

https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=...=1033&id=38936

You still have access to your old Windows ID.

Thanks for the reply.

When my Windows Live ID still had the , I had the option to
change the email to another address. Actually we were requested by MS to
change our email associated with the WL ID because the company.com domain is
to be federated with MS in anticipation to the Office Communicator
integration. In any case now that the email has been changed, Windows Live
Messenger is working in limited capacity. I could login using the new email
and see my contacts but most of them have the problem I described.

I realize I can always just register a brand new account but that's a bad
solution for me because my Windows Live ID has many things associated with it
including Windows Live Spaces, MSDN subscriptions and other things that may
not be easy to migrate to the new account. Otherwise I'll have to start using
2 Windows Live accounts which would be very inconvenient.

Speaking of which, can I associate my Windows Live space with another
Windows Live ID? My guess is no but I don't mind if someone surprised me.

Thanks.

Greetings Herman,

Your best bet in these scenarios where your Live ID didn't transfer over properly is to
transfer it back to the old address and then transfer it again.

For some reason the second time it usually will work properly.

Quick link to the wizard for you:

Hi,

Ignore that, it won't let you now that you've switched to Hotmail.

I realize that as well. Do you think MS support will be able to do something
for me (e.g. trigger the migration process again or something)? Who is the
proper department/area to send the request to? I've been bounced between WL
Messenger, ID, spaces and not quite sure who else to contact.

Thanks.
