prevent IE7 from auto-installing

How do I ensure IE7 does not install automatically? Using WinXP Pro
w/SP2 and automatic updates set to download and ask me before installing.
Afraid wife OR I may accidentally hit accept option. Plus, I want to ensure
it is not intermingled with future updates and be installed that way.

I haven't seen it but, apparently, a big blue screen appears and you
have to agree to the EULA, blah, blah, blah, so I am sure you won't
install it by mistake. If it's being offered to you now, you can untick
it and tell it not to show the update again.

Hi,

Go to the windows update website.
choose the "Custom" button
Uncheck IE7
right click the updater icon in systray and choose cancel
It will go away for good.

Hi sdlomi
Go to WU Home - let it search and offer you the update - then choose to have
it put in your Hidden Folder - just like I did, along with all the other MS
crXp on offer.
Its not a critical/security OR EVEN IMPORTANT enough to download if you do
not want it.

But telling posters to hide etc MS upgrades may not get you ,may votes ;-)

And you can always unhide it in the future once all the third party
programs are up to snuff and a few updates to IE7 have come out. Same
thing with Vista. Why be the first?

Thanks to those above and below for the advice. I feel more comfortable
now. It was my carelessness I was really afraid of--not due so much to
