Vista (and XP) tries to read the icon of every .exe file it sees in th
explorer
When the network is slow (i.e. VPN) this leads to excessive delays
especially bad when doing drag&drop actions with the explorer
90% of the time I end up opening a dos box and do
"copy C:\users\<username>\download\<filename.exe
\\192.168.250.68\d$\temp
or something similar, which does the action in th expected speed, i.e
in my case with 100 kb/s
Is there a way to keep the explorer from loading icons if the .exe fil
is on a network share or browsed to via UNC path? It is OK to load th
icon if the file is local, but on a VPN connected drive it is
catastrophy and makes the explorer _seem_ like it has hung over fe
minutes
For the record: In WinXP-SP3 the problem was less bad, but I won't g
back to XP
