At the end of each startup, the System32 screen is displayed. The Windows
Task Manager shows Task: System32 running, Process: explorer.exe.
How do I prevent this screen from displaying each time? I'm using XP Pro
v2002, svc pk 2. Please Help.

Hi Bevy_Jeter,

If you have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card, see if running this fix
(provided courtesy of Kelly Theriot) helps solve the problem:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (scroll down to line 260,
right-hand side -->System32 Folder Opens Upon Boot)

If that does not work/is not applicable, then have a look at this MSKB
article:
"System32 Folder Opens When Logging on to Windows XP, Windows 2000, or
Windows NT 4.0"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=170086

Thanks Patti: I did check out Article ID 170086 but I did not see a problem
there as was indicated in that article. I do not have Sound Blaster Audigy 2
sound card, I think. To check, I looked under System Properties/Device
Manager/Sound, video & game controllers where I have SoundMax Integrated
Digital Audio. Is that my sound card? If not, How do I find info on my
sound card? I'm still having my problem, please keep the suggestions/help
coming my way. Bevy.

What you have is not a sound card, but a chip on the motherboard that
controls the sound (known as integrated sound), therefore no, you don't have
a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card.

I have no immediate further suggestions for you, but perhaps the folks
responding to your thread in the windowsxp.general newsgroup (which, btw, is
a more appropriate newsgroup for your question) will be of further
assistance.

No problem. "btw" isn't a newsgroup, it's an internet acronym which stands
for "by the way". I was referring to the windowsxp.general newsgroup as
being a more appropriate one for your question than the windowsupdate
newsgroup.
