Hi...

Is there any intelligent way that I can prevent windows from
downloading updates when I am on a slow link? Sort of like the
download headers only under outlook when it's on a slow link?

When I am on a slow link, I'm using a 3G/GPRS edge card and the data
cost is horrendous so I really would like to be have this
automatically disabled - I can manually disable it, but lord knows
I'll forget at some point and it will drag down 20 Meg of data and
cost me big bucks.

Is there anything in the local security/policy that I can tweak to do
this?

Thanks for your help

Go to Windows Updates and open up each of the updates and chech the box to
HIDE on everyone of them. To get those updates again you'll need to select
"Restore hidden updates" on the left hand side of Windows Updates page.

I got an error report for hidding Internet Explorer 7, but with good
intentions of going to Windows IE7 home page and installing it there. Just
giving you a heads up on those... your going to hell for hidding the updates
if you don't install messages.

Set AU to notify but not automatically download.
Then you can choose when to download and install.
