How do you prevent the current presentaton image in Messenger to show up in
your profile on Windows Live?

I have managed to do it myself, but I cannot find the setting now, as I want
to help a friend to do that.

Greetings Hans,

Have your contact head over to http://profile.live.com/WhatsNewWithYouSettings/ and sign in
with their Windows Live ID. Unchecking the Windows Live Messenger option in the list should
do the trick.

Thank you!
That was what I thought too - but it does not seem to work.
I have also tried to check that setting in my profile to see if the
Messenger image would show up on my profile, but it doesn't. (I have Windows
Live Messenger 2009 (14.0.8089.726).)

Greetings,

One thing to add that any changes to these settings only affect future events that occur -
not current/existing ones. For existing ones he can just go his profile page, hover over the
display picture update, click the small blue gear that appears and choose Remove this update.

As well, your display picture is only transmitted at certain times, which makes this a bit
difficult to reproduce/test as you've noted. However, one thing worth trying is turning off
roaming display pictures, which can be toggled by opening up the main Messenger window,
pressing the Alt key on the keyboard to bring up the menu bar, choose Tools, then Options,
then Sign In category and unchecking the 'use the same display picture and personal message
wherever I sign in'.
