Hi
We develop software for the medical industry and are very tightly regulated
by the FDA. One of the regulations roughtly translates to stating the
environment/components that the software uses E.g Heart Diagnoser 1.0 use MS
SQL2005 SP1. If instead of MS SQL2005 SP1, SP2 is used at a customer site,
the Heart Diagnoser 1.0 is in violation of FDA standards and is considered a
spurious product. This is precisely what is going to happen if automatic
Windows updater is set on at the customer site. A SQL server patch could be
installed thru automatic updates making our product spurious.
I want to know if there is anyway to turn off SQL2005 updates comiing thru
the windows updates ? If there is none, how are other medical software
vendors handling this ? This is a potential showstopper for us and force us
to look at other RDBMS vendors even though our platform is Windows.
Disallowing automatic updates is not an option since the servers at the site
are controlled by the customer

Any comment/ideas appreciated.

Thanks
