a previous install did not complete correctly. finishing install

when I wanna install a new program and want to activate a key.... then I get
this:
a previous install did not complete correctly. finishing install

so I cant install new programms!!!!
How do I get rid of this!!

A specific example, with specific error messages, would help us to
answer you question. The first thing that comes to mind is that
the programs you want to install may not be Vista compatible --
but without more details it's hard to say.

What install type is it?

There's a large variety of "install in progress/incomplete" flags out
there - you would want to check with your vendor about what's tripping their
logic here.
