my C: harddrive and selecting previous version Sometimes it would not show
any items at all.

No I never clean my system restore. I also tried the KB article below and it
does not work at all I still keep seing "no previous version available". This
could be a new issue in SP1. The KB is pretty old.

"Folder versions" list is blank, or you receive a message on Windows Vista:
"There are no previous versions available"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937862/en-us#appliesto

If you installed Vista SP1 lately, check this article out:

System restore points and shadow copies of files are missing after you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945681

Also, the following command lists all the shadow copies in the system.

vssadmin list shadows

Run the command from an elevated Command Prompt window.

No idea then! I assume that System Restore protection is already enabled for C: drive and yet the problem occurs. See if you can use ShadowExplorer to recover files.
