Previously installed updates after System Restore

The April 11 updates (KB 931784;KB930178;KB931261 and KB932168)
all appeared in the add/remove programs.

I did a system restore to April 9th because of an issue with Stand BY not
always working on my laptop and went to April 9 to rid the MS updates and a
program I installed.

I re-installed the program at presently my Stand BY on the laptop seems to
be working.

I looked in the add/remove programs and the April 11th updates no longer
show ( as expected since I did a system restore). However if I go to the MS
update site it is indicated that I do not need any updates and the update
history shows the April 11th updates are installed.

Where are the updates? Did they dissapear from the add/remove programs
because of a System Restore back to another register but are still possibly
in my system?
TIA,

BL

Is, e.g., C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB930178$ <=this (hidden) folder present?

To view hidden files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files
and Folders under Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > View.

I did see the folder(s) as I always Show Hidden Files

I guess the real question is..
Should I manually reinstall the updates?

I did make a restore point to where all is now working.

I doubt it. If Windows Update website says you don't need to install an
update, usually you don't need it and can't install it (again).

Test by attempting to install 930178 manually:

Assuming WinXP SP2 (not x64):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...8-2b7fb40e59ee

Save the download to your desktop; do not Run it. Close all open
applications and double-click on WindowsXP-KB930178-x86-ENU.exe to install.

I have not attempted the manual install yet. One more question first.
As I said I did a system restore to a point prior to the automatic updates
of 4/11. The updates no longer appear in the add/remove programs but the
folders are still in the Windows, ex:C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB930178.

When I check for updates the MS update express scan indicates no updates
needed. When I check my installed updates the 4/11 updates are indicated as
successfully installed.

I am pretty sure that a system restore will restore my system to a point
that was working but woes not remove the files that were installed. This is
proven because I also installed activesync and the file and folders for
activsync were still in "Programs" and thus I had to reinstall activsync in
order to use the proram.

So maybe MS update scan sees the file but it is not active. This is whyI
asked about manually installing. Perhaps I will have to use the SPUNIST.exe
for the 4/11 updates first.

If you do that, you /will/ need the updates again.

Don't do it: Just try to install one (1) of them again. If you get a
"version installed does not match" or similar error, the update's installed
already (as I've suspected all along).

FYI;
The MS update scan said I did not need any updates. I then as you suggested
manually installed KB930178 and it installed and is now listed in the
add/remove prorams. Unfortunately this disagrees with your thoughts.
Now what to do?

I did that and updated all my office prorams and (fingers crossed) all seems
ok. I also made an image of the system as of today.

It is obvious though that if one does a system restore that any updates that
were installed after the earlier restore point would again have to be
manually installed and the problem then is that it appears that the MS scan
engine is not able to properly check for missing updates as it should or at
least in this instance.

A test would be to delete a patch/hotfix and then see if the MS scan detects
that it is needed. ( I would wager a lunch it won't)

Any way, thanks for your helpful suggestions.
