Printer Status Monitor

Running Vista Premium, IE8 and using Epson Stylus CX6600.
Selecting Maintenance button in Printing preferences dialog unable to access
Status Monitor button which is greyed out.
Any ideas how to correct please.

It actually may be a blessing!
The Epson status monitor can cause some annoying but minor problems, with a
popup error message.
It does this periodically with my laptop, which has a wireless connection to
an Epson WF600.
The error message is basically that the status monitor has a problem, not
that there is a printer problem.
