probably a wmp problem

I'm using V11. Just noticed the other day that WMP doesn't stop playing the
sound when I quit the program. I have to use task manager and stop it by
unloading. I think this is a new problem. I noticed it when I kept getting the
popup can't delete, file in use. No it wasn't. yes it was. WMP had quit, but
with the sound muted, I had no idea it was still running.

Is there a fix for this ?
I checked for updates, it says I'm good.
