Problem after installing latest update

I was prompted by Windows to install the latest 2 upgrades to service patch 2
and did so on Wednesday. On Friday I shut down the system for the day but it
did not shut down because of a problem it could not resolve. That problem was
in explorer.exe and also the program nividia would not end.
After selecting the ok button on the explorer.exe issue, the system shut
down and after rebooting, the system was unable to locate my LAN because it
could not load the driver. After looking at the possible causes for this, I
opted to do a system restore to the time just prior to the upgrade install
and am now functional again. I would suggest that Microsoft double check the
actions of the upgrades and possible problems.
I am running WIN XP PRO and use an ethernet connection to a netgear router
to a dsl. I am also running Office Pro 2003.
I hope you can find a response to this statement as I am now concerned about
doing any necessary upgrades.

Thanks for the reply MowGreen[MVP]: Service pack 2 should not be the issue,
since it was installed soon after it was released and has not caused any
issues I could see. The new patches for service pack 2 seem to be the issue.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you, Stitches. I downloaded the SP2 back on
August 25 - no problem. Then, this last Thursday I downloaded the new patches
- Critical Update for Office XP and a Cumulative Sec. Update for IE for
Windows XP SP2. After updating, I shut off my computer and went to bed. The
next day - no email. Can't get response from my cable provider ISP. Checked
with them, they said it wasn't on their side and pointed me to Microsoft.
Spent 3.5 hours on phone with Microsoft technician who had me uninstall SP2
and then those (2) critical updates. My computer couldn't reboot after and I
had to re-set up Windows XP. Still no email. HELP!!
