Hello,

I am running XP professional on my computer. Everything seemed ot
work perfectly (no issues) untill I upgraded my system with XP service
pack 2. Now, my computer will only boot into XP if a CD is in the CD
ROM drive. It doesn't matter what's in the drive, as long as there is
a CD. It is a CDRW that is properly recognized un XP.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to reslove htis problem?

I tried replacing drivers but without success.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Mark

And what happens when there is NOT a CD in the CD-RW drive? How far do
you get into the boot process? What happens when you select to boot
into Safe mode and with no CD in the CD-RW drive?

Doesn't boot into safe mode or regular mode when there is no CD.

You still tell us NOTHING about what is actually happening. Saying it
doesn't boot is like taking your car to the shop and saying, "It's
broke."

How far in the boot process do you get when there is no CD media in the
drive? Do you see the video BIOS screen? Do you see the BIOS screen
showing processor and memory size? Do you see the progress bar screen
showing Windows is starting to load? Do you get to the login screen?
Can you actually enter login information and then "something" happens
after that? Do you get an error message?

Did you change hardware recently, like change or add a drive? Did you
install software recently? Was it anti-virus software or some security
product? What have you done regarding checking your system for nasties?
Have you ran a full scan using an anti-virus product? Have you scanned
for malware using Ad-Aware and Spybot?

Once you do successfully boot into Windows (by having a CD in the
drive), have you used msconfig.exe to disable all startup programs and
then rebooted?
