Problem - Can't delete music

I'm running Windows 7 with Media Player 12. There are 3 songs that were in
the Public Music/Sample Music folder and in the Media Player library.

First I tried to delete the Sample Music folder in Windows Explorer as I
don't want the folder or songs. When I opened Media Player they were still
there. I clicked on one song and got an error that the file was moved or
deleted but it won't let me remove it from the library.

So I went into my recycle bin and restored the files. Then in Media Player
I tried to delete them from there and the computer. Nothing happens.

I want these songs and the sample music folder gone. Any suggestions?

Try deleting the files in Explorer while Media Player is running. WMP
should notice that the files are being deleted and should remove them
from the library too.

Tim,

Thank you. I just tried that and it did work.

I don't believe it. It did work. I closed the media player and went back in
a while later and those songs are right back again. ARRGGHH!

Now what?

Weird. Are they back only in WMP, or in Explorer as well? Try selecting
the songs in the library, right-click, Delete, Delete from library and
my computer, OK. Also, try removing the files permanently from the
Recycle Bin.

Maybe you can't remove these because they are sample songs. Does the
same thing happen if you try to remove other songs too?

If you just delete them from the library, do they stay gone?

Hi Tim,

Sorry for the delay in responding. I was suppose to receive an email when a
response was posted and never got one.

They were back in WMP but not explorer. I had removed them from the recycle
bin. I closed WMP again and re-opened and they were gone again and have not
come back.

But I had deleted the sample videos as well but I had deleted them before I
got your help and they were already removed from my recycle bin. I can't get
them to remove from the WMP library now that they are gone from the computer.

At first I tried to delete the files from the computer and they did delete
but they stayed in the WMP library even if I did this while the player was
open. I restored the files from the recycle bin and was able to get them
deleted. Except for the video files which I had already deleted from the
recycle bin. Now they are stuck in WMP and I can't delete them. Wierd.

Thanks for the site, I'll check it later.

Brian,

Thanks, I might try that. I just don't want to mess anything up. I finally
got all my music from my network hard drive in my library. I say finally
because in Vista I could never figure out how to do it, other than to click
on each song to play it and then it stayed in the library. In 7 I just added
the location to the network drive and it grabbed all the music and put it in
the library.

What happens *exactly* when you right-click the files and select Delete?

You could try rebuilding the library through Tools - Advanced - Restore
media library. However, this will make you lose all play counts, and
possibly ratings too. If you don't want to do this, then I guess you'll
just have to accept that the sample videos are there
