I have a Lite-On SOHW-832s. After upgrading the OS to Vista Beta 2 5384,
Didn't work. Seees it in the device manager but with the warning. Problem
reporting shows this:

Description
Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the
driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run. The problem code
is 39.

Problem signature
Problem Event Name: PnPDeviceProblemCode
Architecture: x86
Hardware Id: IDE\CdRomLITE-ON_DVDRW_SOHW-832S_________________VS0B____
Setup class GUID: {4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
PnP problem code: 00000027
Driver name: cdrom.sys
Driver version: 6.0.5384.4
Driver date: 05-19-2006
OS Version: 6.0.5384.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

Files that help describe the problem (some files may no longer be available)
DMI55B.tmp.log.xml
LOG56C.tmp
cdrom.inf
Version.txt

View a temporary copy of these files
Warning: If a virus or other security threat caused the problem, opening a
copy of the files could harm your computer.

Extra information about the problem
Bucket ID: 6434713

I have deleted both the lower and upper class filters through "regedit". It
immediately worked. But as soon as I restarted, back to the way it was with
the warning. Soooo....I then uninstalled/ reinstalled it through the device
manager and there it was working again!? A few hours later I reboot and
whammy! back to that *&*%%$^$ warning. Grrrr. I am almost bald from pulling
my hair out! The last thing I tried was uninstalling it and immediately
rebooting, of course, that did not work either. Now, nothing I do (even the
previous steps) work. Just that !@#$%^& warning. HELP.

Jay,

I fully understand your frustration. I am in the same position as yourself,
yet I am using the Plextor 760A, and even tried the USB PX-712UF. This is a
known problem from what I see posted on the forms.

We just need a remedy to resolve this issue. I delete the Lower Filters and
it works fine, however, when I install Anydvd, it makes a modification to the
registry and adds a line in as a Lower Filter. Then, I loose both drives and
stuck!

Who has a remedy? We need to help!

Unfortunately, I used CloneCD (same company as AnyDVD) and now I am stuck. So, hopefully you have the ability to delete those filters and get the drive to work again. My filters are gone and it still doesn't work.

I had to delete the upper and lower filters. Reboot. After reboot, deleted
both of my CD devices from Device manager. Reboot. Both were back and
running fine. I now use the Windows Server 2003 tool kit (command line -
download from MS) to make any disks (DVD or CD like ISOs) that Vista will
not do natively. Until I find an app that is actually supported by Vista,
this will do for me.

Hope it does the trick for ya!

Unfortunately I no longer have the filters to delete. I have already tried
this in numerous ways.

P.S. Does Windows server 2003 tool kit support Bitsetting?
