When using it seems just about any application on my Vista machine, the
application will crash with an error message of:

Log Name: Application
Source: Application Error
Date: 7/28/2008 9:36:42 AM
Event ID: 1000
Task Category: (100)
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: xxxxx
Description:
Faulting application appname.exe, version 6.5.0.80, time stamp
0x474cd696, faulting module comctl32.ocx, version 6.0.81.5, time stamp
0x3802598b, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00020f51, process
id 0x1418, application start time 0x01c8f0bf54fbbd5d.

I have Vista business 32 bit sp1 with all critical updates applied. It
seems like a vista problem, is there anything I can try to fix this?
Thanks.

This appears to be a Visual Basic activeX control. The copy I have on my
machine that is the same version as yours predates Vista by about five
years. Like vintage Win 98. I question, "just about any application..."
Like what?

Delete it (temporarily) and see what happens. It's in the system32 folder.
Update that old rag you're running.
