I bought a new Gateway Laptop with Vista Basic and IE7 pre-installed. It
connects to the internet first time with a strong signal but it refuses to
connect to:-
Microsoft.com
Hotmail.com
Bebo.com
Microsoft updates also do not work because of the microsoft.com above.

95% of all other web sites connect without problems. I connect via a Belkin
Wireless router F5D7632uk4 which is used by 4 other PC's and laptops without
any problems. 3 are XP and one is Vista Professional.

I have tried DRTCP and moved MTU's to 1794 as per the help page but it made
no difference. I deleted McAfee and switched off the Microsoft firewall,
again no difference and still no microsoft connection.

This poblem is driving me up the wall as the micrsoft help pages have a
wealth o information and I cannot access them. Any solution ideas?

Perhaps your Hosts file (in windows\system32\drivers\etc) is blocking those
sites, try renaming Hosts (n.b. no suffix) to Nohosts.

Ray,

Thanks for post. I'm off to London for a few days but I'll give your
suggestion a try as soon as I get back.

Thanks,

Alastair
