Problem converting a avi file

I am trying to convert a avi file that has a movie on it, I had no problem
when I did this with Windows XP but now I am running into a problem.

I am using ConvertXto DVD 3.1 and everything seems to be going ok it
converts the avi movie but when it goes to put it on the Verbatim DVD
that's when it stops and it won't work, I have tried and put files onto
these DVD'S and have no problems, the files copy ok to the DVD I don't know
why this is happening.

If I use a Fujifilm DVD + RW DVD and do the same thing ConverterXtoDVD
software has no problem converting and burning the Avi Movie to this kind of
disk, I don't understand why the program will convert and burn to Fujifilm
DVD+RW disk and not to my Verbatim DVD, Vista has no problem copying files
to the Verbatim DVD.

I also tried Flicker freeware software and had used this software on my XP
Computer and now after I convert and burn to Verbatim DVD I try and play the
movie on my Samsung DVD Home DVD Player and it will not play the movie, but
when I used Flicker On my Windows XP I could play the movies on my Samsung
DVD Player ??? I don't understand this problem.
Any held would be appreciated.

hi saint, i do a lot of burning to dvd's when i first started it was very
frustrating ,i thought dvd's were all the same except some were rw and some
not , for instance i almost always put films on dvd-r never rw i find simple
files like backups can go on any disk ..+r's are'nt too bad for films but be
carefull which brand you buy, at the moment i am using TDK+r which i find is
a good all rounder the fact that a converted film won't burn on a particular
brand of dvd is not a problem with vista nor your converting software it is
simply the disc you use you did not mention what type of verbatim disc you
are using +or- hope this is some help

Hi Marty, I am using a Verbatim -r dvd disk and it used to work on Windows
xp but not on my vista premium machine, the only other DVD I have is a
Fujifilm DVD + rw and I have no problem with this DVD converting and
burning, so I think it's the Verbatim R disks windows vista premium does not
like, I'll have to go out and buy a Fujifilm or a TDK+R DVD and see if these
work ??

hi saint , i agree it is the disc ,one thing i forgot to mention last night
is i have had problems in the past when it comes to playback with the dvd
freezing or not playing a tall on some players but playing fine on others my
cure (i got this from this forum)was to reduce the burn speed to x2 .I know
that most burners will burn at x8 or x16 but alot of dvd's are very sensitive
to the burn speed.Since i reduced the burn speed i very rarely have problems
..i use nero 7 ultra to do all my converting and find the quality excelent on
most discs i have not used convertx but have not heard of any issues with
vista nor any with verbatim so i would suggest dropping the burn speed
before wasting the discs

Thanks again for all the info Marty, I'll try and drop the speed and see if
this does the trick and I will look into Nero 7 ultra and see if it's better
then what I am using.
