Problem with DirectX 9.0c

I have just done a complete (clean) rebuild of a machine using Windows
2000 Pro. Everything has gone perfectly except that after I download and
install DirectX 9.0c, Windows Update still shows one option software
update: DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime. After Review and install updates
and a reboot, the option remains. The file is identified as downloaded.
WU shows the update as being installed successfully.

How can I complete the installation so that the option is not offered
continually? I can turn off the notice, but that's not the best solution.

It is amazing how posting to usenet causes a solution to automagically
appear. I downloaded the redistributable file and installed it, and now
everything look correct (with dxdiag). The Custom installation now shows
(0) updates.
