Hi,

I have a pocketpc application written in Pocket Powerbuilder 1.5.1 that
connects to a database on the desktop through active sync. When i attempt
to transfer a large number of records, activesync seems to disconnect and i
lose the connection to the database requiring me to re-cradle the device.

I am attempting to transfer 120 records containing data in about 4 or 5
tables. The disconnects seem to occur every 25-30 records.

I have tried modifying timeout and buffer settings in my dsn with no
success. I have tried running ASA801 and ASA803 with no success. I have
tried activesync 3.8 and activesync 3.7.1 with no success.

I know there is a known issue with activesync transferring a large amount of
data, but has anyone found a version of activesync that does correctly
transfer a large amount of data without disconnecting?

I am almost 100% certain it is activesync because i am not able to
re-connect to the desktop database untill i un-cradle and re-cradle the
device to restore the active sync connection.

Does anyone have any ideas on preventing the workarounds?

Thanks,

Karen

Hi,
The stability of ActiveSync depends on the Pocket PC hardware, Desktop PC
and ActiveSync. I suggest that you call the Pocket PC OEM for assistance
with this.

Thanks,

This is happening on multiple devices on multiple different desktops. I was
hoping someone had run into a problem similar to this and could offer a
solution. This only occurs with a large amount of data. If i transfer
15-20 records, i do not get the disconnects.

I can't see how HP can help me with this issue.

Finally tracked this down to the version of ActiveSync.

Using ActiveSync 3.7 I was able to successfully transfer all 120 records
with no disconnects.

What has changed in ActiveSync since 3.7?

How would i go about reporting this bug to Microsoft to fix in future
versions of ActiveSync?

Hi,
This is where HP can help. They are responsible for reporting issues like
you described to Microsoft. So I suggest you call them so they can report
it.
